Coming up June 2026

This June and July, I’ll be retreating to the beautiful Air Ellemeet in Zeeland, immersing myself in a fresh environment and diving deep into my art with total focus. It’s the perfect setting to create, explore, and let inspiration flow.

As the highlight of this creative journey, I’ll be taking part in the Kunstschouw – an annual contemporary art festival on Schouwen-Duiveland that draws around 10,000 visitors from near and far. Over 150 artists exhibit their work across 30 unique locations in 12 charming villages, turning the island’s western corner into a vibrant celebration of art.

Come and experience the art, the atmosphere, and the stories behind each piece – it’s a chance to connect, explore, and be inspired.

Gaïd Ombre

Gaïd Ombre is a Surinamese-Dutch artist based in Amsterdam, whose vivid, expressive oeuvre invites viewers into a world where color, emotion, and identity merge in striking harmony. Known primarily for her figurative paintings, she approaches each canvas with a painterly freedom: rich, saturated colors, fluid brushstrokes and a subtle abstraction come together to render human figures in ways that feel at once intimate and universal.

Her artistic practice, however, extends well beyond painting. In addition to canvases, Gaïd works in bronze sculpture and ink drawings, embracing a multidisciplinary approach that allows her to explore form, texture and presence from multiple angles.

Born into a bi-cultural background, Surinamese roots and Dutch upbringing, Gaïd carries a dual heritage that quietly infuses her art. This layered identity offers depth and resonance to her subjects: her works often speak to themes of belonging, self-expression, and the complex emotional landscapes of humanity.

Fashion and fabric also hold a special place in her creative vision. Having studied at a fashion academy and even running her own fashion label, she brings to her artworks a refined sensibility for clothing, drape and style. In many of her larger works, garments are not incidental,  they are central, becoming part of the subject’s identity, mood, and narrative.

Over the years, her work has reached audiences far beyond Amsterdam. She’s exhibited in respected galleries such as Sille Gallery, Art Gallery Salon West and Ton Schulten Gallery, and has participated in international art fairs such as Affordable Art Fair Amsterdam. She was in the program ‘Sterren op het doek’ and her work is in permanent collections such as the collection of Reade.

Whether through a textured portrait, a sweeping canvas filled with movement and color, or a bronze figure with silent presence, Gaïd Ombre’s work calls on the viewer to reflect, on identity, on emotion, on the shared humanity that connects us all. Her art is at once personal and universal, rooted in her own story yet open to anyone willing to look, feel, and connect.
